Water in the garden
Causes of accidents:
- Inflatable paddling
pools
- Garden ponds full of
fascinating fish
- Water butts with mysterious dark depths
Some safety tips:
- Never leave a child
alone near water.
- Consider not having a
garden pond.
- Fence a pond in and place netting over the top.
- Keep small children
away from ponds.
- Save
surface water by buying a butt with a tight lid. Stand it on bricks to
raise the height above child level.
Remember that a child can drown in seconds in as little as 75 mm (3 inches) of
water. This is because the head of a toddler weighs a great deal in proportion
to the rest of the body. He cannot raise it up if he falls face down. |
